The Avenue C and 19th Street intersection had become a thriving area of Chinese commerce. The National Chop Suey moved from the middle of the block to sit opposite the Golden Dragon and, in 1970, the Wah Qua Chop Suey, owned by the Mah family, moved to 19th Street and Avenue C from its old location on First Avenue South.Īdded to the mix was Art Mark’s Orient Trading Company, which opened adjacent to the Golden Dragon on the corner of Avenue C. Other established restaurants followed the Golden Dragon and relocated closer to 19th Street. Patrons revelled in the decor of the various rooms - the Lantern Room, the Dragon Room and the Temple Room - all prominently advertised on the restaurant’s float in the Travellers Day Parade.
